The Pro-Tech Story
Pro-Tech is a full-service dive company, established back in 1965. My name is Bob Harris, and I started protech in 1979.
After a period of steady growth, I found myself with more work than I could handle. This was my first dilemma. I thought I was the best cleaner in the marina and that finding skilled employees I could rely on would be a difficult task. Thankfully, I was mistaken, and I was able to assemble an excellent team of divers.
The Pro-Tech Double Check
I was — and still am — always looking for ways to better serve my customers. To enhance the quality of our service, my team and I developed the Pro-Tech Double Check, our rigorous quality control procedure. We evaluate the quality of our cleanings multiple times, at each and every dive. So rest assured, when you choose us as your diving service, we will deliver flawless results.
Beyond the Basics
Our advanced mechanical capabilities enable us to provide a broad range of services, specializing in thru-hulls, changing bearings, props, and much more. A few years back, I developed an underwater hydraulic pumping system to service larger props. We now travel to Redondo Beach, Cabrillo, Long Beach, Alameda Bay, and even Newport, serving the general public, brokerages, and other dive companies.
Educating and Empowering the Next Generation of Divers
I started freediving at the age of 11 and was certified in scuba in 1969.
I owned a dive shop in the early 90’s in Marina Del Rey call Marina del rey divers.
I put together a special class for bottom cleaning and had over 200 divers attended over it course from diver co. all over so. cal..
My classes often consist of 100+ students, from beginners to experts.
Empowering divers to enjoy this wonderful sport and career safely is my objective.
I have even helped some of my students set up their own boat diving businesses, because I believe in promoting the overall health and vitality of the diving industry — an industry that has given me so much.
Tested, Trusted, and Getting Better all the Time
We continue to grow and look for new ways to provide outstanding service to the boating community. Thanks to our exceptional work and reputation, nearly every dive service at the marina has hired us for mechanical projects, including Yacht Service, S&K, Marina Pacific Divers, Del Rey Divers, Mikes Dive Service, Chase Maintenance, and Below the Waterline Diving service.
A Little More About Me….
In the early 70s, I began working in underwater maintenance, primarily to
earn a living and support myself and my wife. I chose this kind of work
for two reasons: I like the challenge of real physical activities, and because I had been around water sports all my life. I taught swimming for
the YMCA, Red Cross, Boy Scouts, and other private groups. I was in the Santa Monica Jr. Lifeguard program and went on to become proficient at
rowing, canoeing, kayaking, lifesaving, skin, and scuba diving.
Although my education and graduate degrees are in social science — counseling, education and religion — I was always pulled to outdoor activities. Even when I worked at churches. I was always running the backpacking, bicycling, camping, and other outside programs. I worked at numerous camps when I was a kid (YMCA, Church, Boy Scouts). I also spent four summers at Emerald Bay at Catalina Island, working for the Boy Scouts.
